APA Theatre presents Look Homeward, Angel

look_homeward_angelThe award winning Academy for the Performing Arts Theatre Department will be presenting the drama Look Homeward, Angel Thursday through Saturday, November 12-14 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, November 15 at 2:00 PM at the Historic Huntington Beach High School Auditorium at 1905 Main Street in Huntington Beach.  Playwright Ketti Frings won the 1958 Pulitzer Prize for adapting Thomas Wolfe’s acclaimed novel of the same title.  This tale of a teenage boy coming of age in North Carolina in 1916 opened on Broadway in 1957 starring Anthony Perkins in the lead.

Eugene Gant (Daniel Lesnick) is a teenage boy who wants to be a writer.  He dreams of escaping his tumultuous family living in his mother’s boarding house and going to college.  His domineering mother Eliza (Emma Baltadano) is always at odds with his hard drinking father W.O. (Grant Rincon).  Eugene’s older brother Ben (Sam Johnson) is always his protector but is involved with an older married woman, Mrs. Pert (Kate Napoli) much against their mother’s wishes.  Sister Helen and her husband (Rachel Fishbough and Jacob Menke) are always working to keep the house going.    A new boarder, the beautiful Laura James (Alyssa Hall) shows up changing his life as he begins a romance with the older woman.  The large cast also includes Jake Webber as Luke Gant, James Volante as Dr. McGuire and Yvonne Gonzales as Madame Elizabeth.

Robert Rotenberry directs Look Homeward, Angel.  Tickets are $22.00 for adults and $16.00 for students.  They can be purchases on line in advance at www.hbapa.org or at the door.
