SAN JOSE, CA – (Feb 26, 2007) CMT Mainstage presents the Broadway epic, Evita playing 2 weeks, March 9-18, 2007.  All performances will be held at the Montgomery Theater, downtown San Jose (corner of Market and San Carlos streets).  Tickets are now on sale - $19 adults, $14 children 12 and under.  Special Target® Family Matinee performance Saturday, March 10 at 2pm, all tickets $9.50.

CMT’s Mainstage production of Evita is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for Access to Artistic Excellence. CMT last mounted this ambitious production five years ago, performed both in English and in Spanish. With this production, the artistic team promises as strong and impressive a production featuring the mature Mainstage performers, ages 14-20.

Evita is directed by CMT alum Ian Leonard. Mr. Leonard also serves as the organization’s Education Manager of Core Programs. The production is being choreographed by newcomer, Gia Solari. Ms. Solari has a long list of professional credits including the most recent national tour of Evita, serving as assistant to the productions artistic team of Hal Prince and Larry Fuller. CMT’s Mainstage performers are gaining a wealth of knowledge working with this experienced artistic team.

Evita, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice first took Broadway by storm in 1979 and walked away with a flurry of Tony Awards that year including Best Musical and Best Original Score. Evita brings to life the dynamic, larger-than-life persona of Eva Perón, wife of former Argentine dictator, Juan Perón. Beginning with the young ambitious Eva, the production follows her methodic rise to sainthood in her homeland. The story tells of the enormous wealth and power she gained and the means by which she became the beloved Evita. Since its opening audiences have swelled to the beautiful score which includes ”Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and What’s New Beunos Aires”.

CMT is proud to renew their ongoing sponsorship from the Target® Corporation. The first Saturday matinee of each 2006 – 2007 production will be a Target® Family Matinee with all prices fixed at $9.50. The Evita Target® Family Matinee will be Saturday, March 10 at 2pm.
