Children’s
Theatre Kicks Off 2007-08 Season with “The Wizard of Oz”
In
celebration of its 60th season, Children’s Theatre of Charlotte
proudly presents “The Wizard of Oz” from September 28-October 20, 2007.
Adapted from the original novel by L. Frank Baum, this spectacular stage version
features the beloved music and lyrics of the classic motion picture.
Follow
Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion down the
Yellow Brick Road
as they seek the help of the mysterious and powerful Wizard of Oz. Their
magical journey brings them face to face with the Wicked Witch of the West, and
the friends learn that they must look inside themselves to find the things they
seek. They also learn, of course, that there’s no place like home.
“Bringing
an iconic story like ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to the stage is incredibly exciting,
but it also poses special challenges,” says Artistic Director
Alan Poindexter
, who directs the production. “We’ve worked hard to honor the source
material while creating a fresh vision for our audience. People who love the
movie won’t be disappointed, but we want to surprise and delight them as
well.” Children’s Theatre of Charlotte last performed “The Wizard of Oz”
during their 50th season (1997-1998).
The
production features a strong lineup of professional actors, including Caroline
Bower, Ben Mackel, Marcus Sherman, Jill Bloede, Steven Ivey, Barbi Van Schaick,
Amy Van Looy, and Poindexter. They are joined by a cast of 25 student actors.
