Children’s
Theatre’s Tarradiddle Players End Their Season with New Show “The
Nightingale” and Audience Favorite “If You Give a Pig a Party”
Children’s
Theatre of Charlotte’s Resident Touring Company, the Tarradiddle Players, will
end their season this May with two productions in the Wachovia Playhouse. The
Players will mount a new version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy
tale “The Nightingale” from May 2-11 and, due to popular demand, will bring
back Laura Numeroff’s “If You Give a Pig a Party” for two additional shows
on May 17.

This
lovely, Asian-inspired retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy
tale invites the audience to become part of a journey of discovery. Like a
tyrannical two-year-old, the Emperor of China is never happy unless he gets his
way. He insists on having the best and most of everything: the best gardens, the
best robes, the best music. Yet all the extravagant riches he collects leave him
feeling empty, until he meets a plain brown nightingale whose simple, lyrical
song strikes a silent chord deep inside his heart. Will the Emperor learn
anything from the sweetness of the nightingale’s song? Or will his greed
destroy the one thing that can make him truly happy?
“The
Nightingale” is directed by Nicia Carla for ages 6 and up. Meet the
Tarradiddle Players and hear stories from the road at an audience talkback
following the opening night performance on May 2.
