Children’s
Theatre Soars into 2008-09 Season with “Peter Pan”
Children’s
Theatre of Charlotte soars into its 61st season with “Peter Pan”,
the musical version of James M. Barrie’s beloved story. Taking flight in the
McColl Family Theatre from September 26 - October 26, 2008, this classic
adventure story will be the most ambitious musical Children’s Theatre has ever
produced.
One
night, young Wendy Darling wakes up to find a mysterious boy outside her nursery
window, looking for his shadow. His name is Peter Pan and he invites Wendy and
her brothers John and Michael to return with him to the magical
island
of
Neverland
, where there are no parents or rules and children never have to grow up.
With
settings that range from a nursery in Edwardian England to a mermaid-filled
lagoon, and fantastical characters like pirates, fairies and one very hungry
crocodile, “Peter Pan” is an exciting challenge for Children’s Theatre’s
creative team. And for the first time in Theatre history, several characters
will actually soar above the stage. ZFX Flying Effects, a Broadway-caliber
company that works with theatres around the world, has been hired to provide
flying equipment and train actors and production technicians on how to operate
it.
For
Artistic Director
Alan Poindexter
, such elaborate technical effects are important because they bring the wonder
of James M. Barrie’s tale to life. “The center of the `Peter Pan' story is
at the heart of our work, which is imagination and play and how you grow from
that,” Poindexter says. “The thrill of that is something we forget to
embrace as we get older, and we want to make that excitement real for our
audience."
The
production features a strong lineup of professional actors, including Nic Bryan,
most recently seen in CPCC Summer Theatre, as Peter Pan. Talented students round
out the cast, with Amanda Roberge as Wendy Darling and Isaac Josepthal and Sam
Faulkner as John and Michael Darling.
