Children’s
Theatre Comes Home for the Holidays with Two Family Favorites
Children’s
Theatre of Charlotte is proud to celebrate this year’s holiday season with two
family favorites. The hilarious tale “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” will
have McColl Family Theatre audiences rolling in the aisles from December 5-21,
while the Tarradiddle Players present the charming classic “The Velveteen
Rabbit” in the Wachovia Playhouse from December 12-22.
“These
two productions honor the spirit of the season and continue our commitment to
telling stories that our entire community can enjoy,” commented Artistic
Director
Alan Poindexter
. “In the midst of a sometimes stressful world, we hope these shows will make
our audiences laugh, reach their hearts, and help them focus on the things in
life that truly matter.”
The
Best Christmas Pageant Ever
“The
Best Christmas Pageant Ever”,
by Barbara Robinson, is the story of the notoriously unruly Herdman kids, who
scandalize their entire congregation when they manage to get themselves cast in
the annual church Christmas pageant. Chaos and mayhem erupt as the Herdmans meet
the Christmas story in a head-on collision. Their interpretation makes this
year’s pageant the most unusual the town has ever seen, and brings the true
spirit of the holiday season to life.
“The
Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is directed by Matt Cosper. The production
features the professional talents of actors including
Mark Sutton
, Nicia Carla, Rebecca Coon, Elyse A. Williams, Caroline Bower, Tiffany
Bryant-Jackson and Amy Van Looy along with a strong student cast.

The
Velveteen Rabbit
Adapted
by Scott Davidson from the story by Margery Williams, “The
Velveteen Rabbit” continues to be one of our most popular
productions and tickets are going quickly. Although
all the other toys in the nursery snub the Velveteen Rabbit for being boring,
old-fashioned and stuffed with sawdust, once the Boy discovers the little rabbit
under his tree on Christmas morning, they become instant friends. As their
friendship grows, the Velveteen Rabbit learns what it means to be truly loved
– and the joy and pain of what it means to be real. Performed by Resident
Touring Company the Tarradiddle Players and directed by Tarradiddle Manager
Steven Ivey
, this poignant story of “nursery magic” has charmed generations of
families.
