Children’s
Theatre of Charlotte’s Ensemble Company Presents Franz Kafka’s “The
Trial”
Children’s
Theatre’s Ensemble Company, made up of talented local high school actors, will
present Franz Kafka’s “The Trial” from May 22-24 in the Wachovia Playhouse
at ImaginOn. This hauntingly believable story from one of the most influential
figures in Western literature comes to life in a black comedy adaptation by
Steven Berkoff.
Josef
K., a young bank manager is unexpectedly arrested on the morning of his 30th
birthday for an unidentified crime. K. falls in a downward spiral as he
questions his alleged guilt and himself. Presented in a dynamic, minimalist
staging, his plight seems laughingly absurd but all too terrifyingly real.
“The Trial” mirrors the hardship Kafka faced growing up as a minority in 20th
century
Prague
, and illustrates the dangers of bureaucracy and totalitarianism.
Performances
will be held on May 22-24 at 7:30 pm in the Wachovia Playhouse. All tickets are
$10. For tickets to “The Trial”, call the Children’s Theatre Box Office at
704-973-2828 (10 am-5 pm, Mon.-Fri.) or visit our website: www.ctcharlotte.org.
“The Trial” contains mature themes and is recommended for middle and high
school audiences.
