Scottsdale,
Ariz. (May 13, 2012) – DST’s
Children’s Series transforms the theatre into a magical garden as the
inspirational and heartwarming tale The
Butterfly’s Day unfolds
Fri., May 24 — Sun., June 23.
This
near-and-dear Gerry Cullity original musical imparts an incredible story of a
Butterfly given one day to find its purpose. Along this majestic journey our
tiny friend must overcome the evil Gypsy Moth Queen and accomplices Sneaky,
Sleazy, Slimy and Sluggy. Fighting the attempt to banish butterflies from
nature forever, an endearing bevy of friends – from the spunky Katy-Did and
Katy-Didn't to the comical Bumble and Fumble Bees – come to the aid of the
Butterfly. Among lessons learned is the value friendship, and that every promise
made truly matters. Cullity was cofounder of Desert Stages Theatre, launching
the active community playhouse in 1995.
As
a DST tradition, the Children’s Series presents at least one Gerry Cullity
original production each season in honor of him – The
Butterfly’s Day closes the
curtains on the Children’s Theatre Series for the 2012-2013 season on this
uplifting note.
History. The

About
Desert Stages Theatre. A bustling community playhouse, Desert Stages
Theatre in Scottsdale, Ariz., is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3, founded in 1995, and
delivers performances year round. Three show schedules occur throughout the
year: Actor’s Café performances in the intimate, proscenium-style 65-seat
theatre; the Mainstage Series in Cullity Hall, an inventive
theatre-in-the-round; and the Children’s Theatre Series, also performed in
Mainstage Cullity Hall. DST also operates a theatrical academy, regularly
hosts talent shows (“Show Your Stuff”), and offers a variety of music, dance
and other classes open to the community. DST is led by cofounder,
executive director and artistic director, Laurie Cullity. Additional
cofounders are Joan Thompson and the late Gerry Cullity. Included in each DST
season are children’s productions of original scripts, musical scores and
lyrics by cofounder Cullity whose works are still relished eight years after his
passing. Desert Stages has developed thousands of thespians, young and old, many
with compelling personal stories of triumph and major stage success, and all of
whom perform at DST for the pure love of the theatre.
