Encore Youth Theatre Presents Little
Shop of Horrors This
gleefully gruesome musical is a cult classic, with a lineup of energetic songs
and an assortment of zany characters, this show will delight anyone with a taste
for the unusual! Down-and-out, skid row
floral assistant Seymour becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an
exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood! Seymour, infatuated with
his co-worker Audrey, allows his craving for fame and fortune to seduce him into
playing nursemaid to the man-eating plant. Naming the plant after his secret
love, soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing
carnivore who offers him his hearts desires… One of the
longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof, based
on the campy Roger Corman 1960 flick, has become a household name. Thanks to a
highly successful 1986 film version starring Rick Moranis and a score by the
songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. Their songs straddle the line
between joy and satire. Musically they invoke recognizable styles ('50s doo-wop,
saccharine Broadway love song), but the pointed, comical lyrics constantly
collide with the music's sensibilities and the contrast produces continuously
entertaining results. Encore’s Youth
Theatre’s award-winning “dream
team” of Ali Whitman (as Director/Choreographer), and Sean Tamburrino (as
Musical Director, who will offer his talent as the R&B rocking voice of
Audrey II), bring a creative twist and passion to this production, making it one
of Encore’s most audience-anticipated productions in years! Starring Helena Marie
Woods (currently in production for Nigel Lythgoe’s production of “Finding
Cinderella”) as Audrey, Drew Bradford as
Seymour, Austin Cook as Mr. Mushnik, Logan
Wilson as Orin, Sean Tamburrino as the voice of Audrey II, and Katie Heniser,
Sammy Belgum, and Jalie Fransway as The Urchins. Show plays October
