Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, founded in
1952, was the first documented children's theatre in the state of Florida.
It remains one of the very few theatres whose performances use students as
actors, assistant directors, backstage crew and technicians. The theatre
offers classes, productions, and community outreach programs for young people
ages 3 ½ - 18. FLCT continues to provide the community and visitors to
the area a source of enrichment and enjoyment in the cultural arts and to
provide opportunities for young people to participate in classes, productions
and creative dramatics exercises, regardless of economic, cultural, or ethnic
backgrounds.
Recent achievements include the prestigious City
of Hope 2004 Business Woman of the Year Award presented to Janet Erlick,
Executive Artistic Director. Southeastern Theatre Conference Sara Spencer
Child Drama Award for Excellence in Theatre for Youth in 2003, the 50th
Anniversary Gala and Season in 2002, the Moretti Award for Cultural Achievement
in 2001, The Small Business of the Year Award in 2000, and being named

Magazine five times. Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is constantly
recognized as the place where dreams take center stage.
