J*COMPANY
PRODUCES EVER-POPULAR JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING
TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT with Unique Interpretation and Fun Surprises LA
JOLLA, CA – The award-winning J*Company Youth Theatre, a program of the San
Diego Center for Jewish Culture at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center,
JACOBS FAMILY CAMPUS, is pleased to announce its production of JOSEPH
AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, running February 25 through March 13, 2011 at the David and Dorothea
Garfield Theatre. In this long-running musical we see the
story of Joseph, son of Jacob. Patriarch
Jacob lived happily with his dozen sons, but his favoritism for bright Joseph,
symbolized by the gift of a spectacular multi-colored coat, makes his brothers
so jealous they end up selling him into slavery. Though beset with adversity, Joseph perseveres through wit,
faith and a rockin’ 21st century score, becoming the governor of
Egypt, second only to the Pharaoh. Jason Chase
is directing JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING
TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. Chase
has served as the Musical Director for numerous national tours in North and
South America as well as across Europe. He
has worked on The King and I, starring
Stephanie Powers, Jesus Christ Superstar,
starring Ted Neeley, Ragtime, Grease,
42nd Street, On the
Town, Kiss Me Kate, Damn
Yankees, Into the Woods, Big River,
Cabaret, The Goodbye Girl, The Music
Man, Evita, Cinderella, Annie Warbucks,
Forever Plaid, The Wiz and Pacific Overtures. He was also the Associate Musical Director and Conductor for
the U.S. national tour of Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, starring Patrick Cassidy and American
Idol’s Amy Adams. Chase is an
accomplished composer for film, song and stage.
He composer the film score for the movie The
Runaway, the score, lyrics and book for Jehanne,
The Musical, as well as the North American debut of the musical A
Christmas Carol. He has served
as vocal coach and accompanist for the Metropolitan Opera, the Chicago Lyric
Opera, NYU’s Tisch School for the Arts and Missouri State Opera.
Chase was the choral director and arranger for the national tour of The
Colors of Christmas, starring Peabo Bryson, James Ingram, En vogue, John
Secada, Oleda Adams, Jody Watley, and Marilyn McCoo and was on the original
artistic staff for Bravo Television’s “On with the Show” serving as
Musical Director and Arranger. “We
are fortunate to have Jason Chase, one of the foremost experts on JOSEPH
AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
working with our J*Company young artists as both the Show Director and Music
Director,” said Joey Landwehr, J* Company’s Artistic Director.
“One of the best things
about JOSEPH is the malleability of the production. If done right, the audience will never see the same show
twice. All of the well-loved songs
will be there – but with a unique interpretation that will make the production
surprising and full of fun.” For
the educational component, the cast of JOSEPH
AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
will be writing and sending letters to public officials, including San Diego
Mayor Jerry Sanders, California Governor Jerry Brown, and President and First
Lady Obama, on the importance of arts funding and the impact of arts education
on the lives of youths. They will
also attend a performance of Turandot
at the San Diego Opera. Heading
