The
Morgan-Wixson Theatre, is hosting one special, charity performance of
"Beauty and the Beast" to raise funds for the Dylan David Scholarship
Fund for Young Actors on Saturday,
November 23, at 8 pm.
The scholarship was created in
Dylan's name
to help kids in the theater's student program. The Dylan David Scholarship Fund
for Young Actors will provide scholarships for voice, dance and/or acting
training to YES and Youth Musical actors who could not otherwise afford them.
Scholarships will be based on need, the life goals of the actor, and an essay
and interview. Applications and instructions for obtaining a scholarship will be
available in early December and scholarships will be awarded by February
1, 2014.
For those of you who did not know SuperDylan, he was the younger brother of one
of our theatre regulars in the Award-Winning Y.E.S. (Youth
Education/Entertainment Series) program. He lost a 6 year long fight with brain
cancer last May, but before he passed, his bright smiling face was an
inspiration to all of the actors in the YES program. And he could
"roar" with the best! One of the reasons we chose "Beauty and the
Beast" as our 18th Annual Youth Musical was to honor Dylan and his famous
roar.
Tickets are $50 (only 2.5 times the usual), which is still far less than a
musical at Pantages or the Ahmanson. And for a worthy cause. James Dean got his
start at this theater -- so, who knows? You may be helping the next superstar
hit the big time!
