Riverside
Youth Theatre presents
Aida
Aida is a story of forbidden and unrequited love, when
two contemporary youths are swept from an exhibition of Egyptian artifacts back
in time to live in the musical adaptation of the 1871 Verdi opera. A classic
love triangle: Aida, a Nubian princess, is captured by an Egyptian captain,
Radames. He soon falls in love with her, saves her from a life of hard labor and
then gives her as a handmaiden to the Egyptian princess Amneris, his future
bride. Set against a backdrop of loyalty, betrayal, and forbidden love. Aida
is the story of three people who are forced to make difficult choices that will
alter history forever.
Add updated styles of pop, gospel, reggae, Motown, African, Indian, and Middle
Eastern music written by Elton John (The Lion King), fresh lyrics
by Tim Rice (Joseph...Dreamcoat), modern Egyptian costuming and
you have a beautiful modern love story. Aida was the hit of the
2000 Tony season winning Best Original Musical Score, Best Actress (Heather
Headley), Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, plus a Grammy Award for the
Best Original Broadway Cast Recording.
Riverside Youth Theatre is proud to be the first community theatre in the

School Musical), and music direction by Steve Wolgemuth.
