Riverside Youth Theatre will be staging this classic musical which retells the Romeo and Juliet story in a modernized setting. West Side Story is an extraordinary song and dance experience set within a dramatic tale of love between two rival street gangs. When the war between the Jets and Sharks reaches a peak, the Jets leader, Riff decides to challenge the Sharks to one last rumble. Riff decides to confront the Sharks leader, Bernardo, for a war council at a gymnasium dance. To strengthen his argument, Riff asks his old friend and co-founder of the Jets, Tony, to come along. Tony has set his sights beyond their neighborhood, but while at the dance surprisingly falls in love with Maria, Bernardo’s sister. This decision, as in Romeo and Juliet, eventually ends in tragedy. Riverside Youth Theatre’s talented West Side Story cast features Marina Gomez as Maria, Gabriel Martinez as Tony, Anyssa Navarro as Anita, Garrett Goodell as Bernardo, Bobby Coovert as Riff and 30 additional teens and adults. The production crew of Debbie Wolgemuth (Director), Rebecca Park Sandlin (Choreographer) and Sarah Horn (Music Director) are thrilled to be producing this extraordinary musical.
