Rollicking
pirate tale Bluenose
Opens SCT’s 2008-09 Mainstage Season
(Seattle,
WA) – Seattle Children’s Theatre is excited to present the first show of
the Mainstage Season – Bluenose,
written by Emil Sher and directed by Allison Narver. Bluenose opens October 17,
2008 in SCT’s Eve Alvord Theatre and runs through December 14, 2008.
Bluenose
is a rollicking pirate story with quick and witty banter, fantastic physical
comedy, and a lovely story of tolerance and acceptance. Three red-nosed pirates
stumble across a blue-nosed girl fishing in the water around their boat. Being
different from them is an unthinkable offense, and they don’t like it! Despite
their bumbling, stumbling ways, she teaches them to let go of their prejudices
and fears, and they all learn a little bit about themselves along the way.
SCT Artistic Director Linda Hartzell says, “Bluenose
is a story that can be shaped to suit the message you want to discuss with your
kids—racism, sexism, self-esteem, you name it. And, it’s just plain fun!”
SCT is pleased to welcome new and returning artists to the cast of Bluenose.
The cast includes Emily Chisholm (The Neverending Story), Timothy
Hyland (19 previous SCT productions, most recently The Neverending Story), Hana
Lass and Brandon Simmons. Trick
Danneker is the understudy.
The artistic team will be led by Director Allison
Narver, who directed SCT’s production of The
Hundred Dresses last season. Narver was previously the Artistic Director for
Empty Space Theatre and Annex Theatre; her local directing credits include Eurydice
(currently playing) and Clean House
(ACT), Memory House and
Bad Dates (Seattle Repertory Theatre), and Little
Women (Book-It Repertory Theatre), as well as numerous productions during
her tenure at Empty Space.
Narver is joined by Fight Choreographer Geoffrey
Alm (Night of the Living Dead, Hamlet),
Costume Designer Scott R. Gray, Music
Director Mark Rabe (Busytown, High School Musical),
Lighting Designer Jessica Trundy,
Choreographer Kathryn Van Meter (Night
of the Living Dead, High School
Musical), SCT Resident Sound Designer Chris
R. Walker and Set Designer Carey Wong
(Night of the Living Dead, The
Neverending Story).
Bluenose
will be presented in SCT’s Eve Alvord Theatre. Seattle Children’s Theatre is
located at 201 Thomas Street, under the Space Needle at Seattle Center. Tickets
