YOUNG ARTISTS ENSEMBLE presents The 37th ANNUAL TEEN SUMMER MUSICAL GREASE
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey Originally Produced by Robert Stigwood Musical Direction by Zachary Spencer Conducted by Susan Treworgy-Calkins Choreographed by Miriam Durrie-Kirsch Directed by Devery Holmes THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Young Artists Ensemble presents its Teen Summer Musical production of GREASE directed by Devery Holmes. Performances are July 28 through August 6, 2017, Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 at Newbury Park High School Performing Arts Center, 456 N. Reino Road in Newbury Park, CA 91320. Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'", "It's Raining on Prom Night", "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Director Devery Holmes is a veteran director for the Conejo Players, helming 11 musicals and plays since 1988. “It was very moving getting to know the cast as they shared personal stories of life and high school angst,” said Holmes. “Because of their friendships and the YAE experience, they talked about not being alone in this journey feeling that together they can get through anything. When they sing “We Go Together” there is such camaraderie and joy… it doesn’t get better!” Also a singer, dancer and actor, Devery is currently performing in the Conejo Players production of HAIRSPRAY. Devery’s connection to YAE is through her son, A.J. Holmes, a YAE Alumni who performed in past shows including GUYS AND DOLLS and CITY OF ANGELS and more recently has performed the role of Elder Cunningham in THE BOOK OF MORMON, on Broadway and in London and Australia.
